One goal to Claude, a team of agents builds it
Chief of Staff is a free (MIT) Claude Code skill by Matt Pocock, in the beta (in-progress) part of his skills repo. Claude hands the work to background subagents, keeps talking to you while they build, and improves the setup (rules, checks, docs) for the next task.
1 Install (in your project)
npx skills@latest add mattpocock/skills --skill chief-of-staffRead the skill on GitHub (it is a short prompt file; the work is real). Beta: it can change without warning.
2 Run it so the agents really go to the background
Start an interactive session with claude (not claude -p: one-shot mode runs subagents in the foreground), then type /chief-of-staff and your goal. The agents show up in the panel under the prompt, and you can keep asking questions while they work.
3 The exact goal from the reel
/chief-of-staff Goal: build me a prompt library web app I'll actually use every day. Save my best AI prompts as cards with tags, search them instantly, fill in {{variables}} before copying, one tap to copy. Everything stays in localStorage and works offline. Mobile-first, dark, premium-looking UI. Plain HTML, CSS and ES modules, no build step. Logic tested with node:test. Seed it with 8 genuinely useful prompts and write a README.4 What our run did (17 Oct 2026)
Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code: 9 background agents (never more than 3 at once), about 50 minutes, 278 passing tests, a working offline app after 23 minutes. Mid-run it answered an unrelated question in 3.9 seconds while two agents kept building. It also wrote ARCHITECTURE.md, CODING_STANDARDS.md and an npm run check that blocks shortcuts.
Cost: about $16 at API list prices (we were on a Max plan). To keep it cheaper: use Sonnet, give it a smaller goal, or tell it to skip extra QA rounds.
